Forklift wheels are grouped by function. Drive wheels are powered and mounted to the drive axle to propel the truck; steer wheels handle directional control, usually at the rear; and electric pallet trucks and stackers add load wheels and caster wheels that carry and stabilize the load close to the floor.
Tire type matters just as much as function. Solid (cushion or press-on) tires are common for smooth indoor warehouse surfaces and offer a tight turning radius. Pneumatic tires — air-filled or solid rubber with tread — are built for rough or outdoor terrain and give better traction and cushioning. Polyurethane wheels, typical on electric pallet equipment, resist wear and can't go flat. Because hub mounting, diameter, and width vary by brand and model, wheels should be matched to both your forklift and its tire type.

Cushion (solid) tires are press-on rubber suited to smooth indoor surfaces and offer a smaller turning radius. Pneumatic tires are air-filled or solid rubber with tread, built for rough or outdoor terrain and better traction.
Solid forklift wheels use press-on solid rubber or polyurethane instead of air. They can't go flat, which makes them well-suited to indoor warehouse use and applications with debris on the floor.

Replace forklift wheels when you see chunking, flat spots, cracking, or the wear line on the tire, or when ride quality and traction noticeably drop. Worn wheels reduce stability and should be addressed promptly for safe operation.
