The mast — also called the upright — is the vertical assembly at the front of the truck that lifts, lowers, and tilts the load. It works by hydraulic displacement: the hydraulic pump sends pressurized fluid to the lift cylinder, which extends to raise the carriage along nested rails, while chains and rollers guide the movement and keep it stable. To lower, a flow control valve releases fluid back toward the tank and gravity brings the load down in a controlled manner.
Masts are built in several stages, and the parts differ accordingly. A simplex (single-stage) mast has one moving rail set and limited height; a duplex (two-stage) adds a second stage for more lift; a triplex (three-stage) is the most common warehouse configuration and offers high lift with good free lift; and a quad (four-stage) reaches the greatest heights. Because rail dimensions, cylinder sizing, and carriage design vary by brand, model, and mast type, mast parts are rarely interchangeable — matching parts to your exact truck and mast configuration is essential.
